A Very Enjoyable Stay - Rating 5/5
My partner and I just had a lovely long weekend break in the Yorkshire Dales and we stayed at the George and Dragon in Aysgarth. It is an old building with plenty of character. Our room was comfortable and warm and clean and we had a large bathroom with separate bath and shower. The bed was comfy too. Tea and coffee was laid on in the room. The evening meals and breakfasts were excellent. Well cooked food using fresh local ingredients, very well presented and very tasty indeed. The steak and ale pie was one of the best I have had for a long time.I would happily stay here again and heartily recommend the George and Dragon.

Amazing people, and place - Rating 5/5
My husband and I stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights. The first night the inn was out of power due to a storm, but it did not stop the wonderful service and the food was amazing! I am gluten free and they had wonderful meals that would fit my diet restrictions and made sure each day that we had everything we needed.Elaine and the rest of the staff were very helpful and super nice and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We loved staying here and if are ever back in the area will make sure to stay there again. They are like family. I strongly recommend you check out The George and the Dragon and if you can't stay there at least go for a meal, you won't regret it!

Fantastic Stay - Rating 5/5
Stayed 3 nights for a short break, accommodation was fantastic, large luxurious bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower. Room had four poster bed and was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The food was excellent and the portions large. Treacle sponge on the menu the last night was an added bonus. The pub is just down the road from Aysgarth falls with lots of villages within a short driving distance or walking if that’s what you like. There’s plenty of parking and nothing is too much bother for them. We will be back it’s a great base for walking in the upper dales

Love this place - Rating 5/5
This is our 2nd time staying at the G&D. We love it. It's owned and run by a mother, daughter & son. The daughter and son work tirelessly in the business and are so friendly with all customers, that's why we returned. The rooms are very spacious and comfy. We didn't eat in the restaurant this time but it was packed solid both evenings. We sat outside with the beautiful views and the sounds of livestock in the opposite fields. We will definitely be back

pleasant, friendly,family run business - Rating 4/5
It was touch and go on arrival due to an unfortunate and unforseen situation arising in the morning prior to my arrival but after an evening of chatting with Ashley behind the bar my initial doubts faded and I really enjoyed my stay, breakfast was a bit disorganised however I think that was just a result from the previous days events. The food was lovely and faultless. if I had one criticism for my stay it would be that the shower could have benefited from a tad more force, some of the decor is slightly older in style but it didn't detract from how pleasant my experience was overall and I'd stay again the next time I'm in the area.

Great stay - Rating 5/5
We took advantage of the three nights for two offer which included the meals. We were pleased that we did as the meals were great. Elaine looked after us in the evening and was very helpful. The room was comfortable, although it could be a bit noisy first thing as farm traffic started up early, but that was to be expected, it is in a rural location. Sitting outside after our evening meal was an experience as the only sounds we could hear were the sheep and the birds. I made the reservation via the website, however the deposit could not be made online and I had to phone up with my credit card details. Maybe the website could be updated to allow online payment? In the evening the place was buzzing with residents mixing with guests in the bar. We reserved a table for all three nights which was helpful as on one night a large party of 12 people arrived. The facility is used by nearby campsites and B&Bs and as there is only one other pub in the area, I would recommend reserving a table. Drinks in the evening were paid for at the end of our stay and I was asked to pay in cash, I do not know whether card payment is accepted. Fortunately I had picked up some cash in Grassington from one of the few cash machines in the area. If you are looking for somewhere for a few nights I would highly recommend the George and Dragon.

This is a genuine 17th century coaching inn. The place is furnished sensitively with modern items to really stick with that ambience. The bathrooms are very modern - if a tad chilly (we never turned the heating on) - and functional, great to have a big whirlpool bath.Lovely intimate bar with a mix of guests and locals.Location is breathtakingly peaceful, even on the main road, and a short walk from the falls.Food is good pub food, nicely presented and promptly served.

Let’s be honest, the main question we all ask is was it worth the price we paid. I can honestly say that I’d have not been too surprised if we’d been charged more. The room was spotless, the location fantastic and the food hearty! Add to that a good nights sleep on an incredibly comfy beds and wonderful hosts, then there’s little more we could have asked for.

Nice room, beautiful location and fantastic food (a truly excellent homemade steak and ale pie). Worth noting it’s only a short walk from Aysgarth Falls.Only downside was that this is a historic building so be aware that the pub noises travel, which can make an early night was difficult if that’s your plan. The food is all homemade too so you won’t be rushing your meals.

Spent the Easter weekend at the George & Dragon - two adults, young teenage son and one wild dog. The George & Dragon were very welcoming, no issues with our large boisterous husky, comfortable room with en-suite, very clean as well. Ate in the pub one night, traditional pub fair well done and specials which were more adventurous and sounded good (but we were hungry for a big feed, so went with the fish & chips and gammon & chips). Good breakfast as well - cereals, fruit, full English with very good bacon, sausage and black pudding. Lots to see and do in the area, not least of which Aysgarth Falls, a short walk away. Plenty of parking, big enough for our van. Recommended.

As always Elaine and mum very accommodating, on check in we were told there was a shortage of gas - but that did not effect our stay as ‘mum’ had provided heaters in our rooms so they were still nice and cosy. As myself, hubby David and Hector have stayed several times, Elaine had even bought pineapple for my Malibu- now that’s what I call service. Also stayed for food - I had the rump steak - rare and OMG it was soooo tender it just melt in the mouth. All our meals were lovely and the prices were even better. I would highly recommend you stay here - ‘oldy worldy’ pub with authentic creaky stairs and great hospitality. Can’t wait to visit again x See u all soon x Claire, David and the ‘Hairyman Hector

Comfortable stay in a beautiful area - Rating 4/5
We all enjoyed our stay at the George and Dragon. We had four rooms booked- all comfortable, nicely decorated and pristinely clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Ate twice in the evening and food was excellent although a little more variety for vegetarians would be nice. The area is perfect- close to Aysgarth Falls and lots of beautiful walks. Be aware if travelling with dogs that there is very limited accommodation for them- had to eat in a tiny back room which was the old reception area for the pub. There is a great atmosphere in the bar- very friendly and welcoming but the bar area is small and can be a challenge to get a table. All in all a lovely pub with great food and if you don’t have a dog I would highly recommend it.

Short break - Rating 4/5
Having previously had an enjoyable stay at The George & Dragon many years ago we thought it was about time we returned. All the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming & polite, the quality & portion sizes of food were excellent, the bar & restaurant were warming & comfortable. Our only criticism was we found our room (room number 6) & en-suite basic & bear, we’re not sure whether this is anything to do with Covid & keeping them minimalist, but the en-suite could certainly do with a toilet roll holder rather than sitting the toilet roll on the cistern & a shelf for guests to put their toiletries on. WiFi didn’t connect in our room!Having said that we enjoyed our break & the special offer of dinner, bed & breakfast 3 nights for the price of 2 was extremely good value for money.

This family run inn was the perfect place for a short break. The staff were friendly and polite and couldn't do enough for you. The room we stayed in was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The en suite was a good size too. The food was superb at every meal and they were willing to make changes to the menu to suit my wife's dietary needs without any fuss. Breakfasts were also of an amazingly high standard with a lot of variety to choose from. The bar area was cosy and friendly. The locals chatted happily to guests and we were made to feel really welcome. Staff and locals alike liked to know what we had done that day and were always willing to suggest other places we might like to go to. We can't wait to visit again. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

Home from home, very friendly - Rating 5/5
Stayed at George and Dragon Friday 30th and Saturday 31st of July in Room 1. Which was very adequate for our needs, bathroom was huge, plenty of hot water and lovely white crisp towels to dry urself with. Beds were made on the Saturday with clean towels, which we didn’t necessarily need but was a nice gesture. Bed lovelyAnd comfy, room was just to the right of the stairs so could get a bit noisy at times from people passing - but didn’t bother us that much- we slept in one morning for breakfast but when we did make it down on the Sunday morning it was well worth the wait. Great choices. Myself and my hubbie chose the ‘full English’ which was lovely - all ingredients sourced from local produce. Also had an evening meal, again great value for money and typical ‘home cooked food’ that most people enjoy. As soon as you walk through the door Elaine and her Mum make you feel very welcome, always attentive to your needs. They have a great team around them as well as ‘the local neighbours’ helping when they can. A great ‘community’ spirit. Well done everyone, Claire and David Stewart will be back very soon. I will highly recommend your accommodation to all my friends and family - although most of them have already stayed xxxx

The hotel was lovely a little tired but the rooms were spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and the beer was fabulous! The staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. The hotel is ideally located for all the Joy's that the Dale's have to offer. A very enjoyable stay, excellent value!!

We stayed for one night with our two dogs. Great walking nearby;we walked from Aysgarth Falls (very busy) up to Bolton Castle and back across the hills via Carperby. Very good evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The staff were knowledgeable and accommodating regarding my husbands coeliac disease. Dogs couldn't come into the restaurant but we were able to leave them in the room and then bring them into the barwith us later. We will be returning here again.

We stayed for 2 nights this last weekend for my husband's birthday, had to check out due to an emergency after the first night but were able to later return to complete our stay. John, Collette and family were fantastic hosts and made us feel so welcome. The food is delicious, the bar is so cosy, the rooms are spotless and the beds so comfortable! Perfectly located for the falls and local villages, the creamery etc. This was our second stay and we cannot wait to come back next year. Thank you!

We booked a few days at the George and Dragon to celebrate my wife's retirement and as soon as we arrived there we felt at home. The staff couldn't do enough for us, the atmosphere was excellent, a real country inn feel to it, with an open fire, good choice of drinks and friendly clientele. We stayed half board and the food couldn't have been better, we enjoyed everything we had. It's well located for visiting various parts of the Yorkshire Dales and I would recommend it as a base for anyone wanting to visit Wensleydale.Thank you for a lovely stay.

Comfortable stay with wonderful food - Rating 4/5
We stayed two nights (6-7 Sept 2013) in room 5, along with our small dog. The en-suite room, although a little on the small side was spotless and well serviced during our stay and the bed/mattress super-comfortable with quality pillows & bed-linen. The ensuite shower-room was spacious, spotless and well presented. We ate both evenings in the restaurant where the food was exceptionally good (booking advisable). The table service was warm and attentive without being fussy and the traditional & atmospheric bar cosy and well stocked. There is a small residents' lounge should there be no seats in the bar after your meal (Free Wifi is available in the bar/lounge area but seemed out of range in our bedroom). Breakfast (8:30-9:30) was also very good. The only negative: between 5:30pm - 9pm noise and excessive vibrationin our bedroom through the floor from the kitchen extractor fan below the window. Hopefully this might be attended to in due course as it would discourage me from booking the same room, otherwise I would have no hesitation in recommending the George & Dragon Inn. A friend stayed in room 3 which we thought looked a superb room.

Super find in the Dales - Rating 5/5
We stayed for 2 nights as a wedding anniversary treat. The hotel is well situated for walking if you don,t want to use your car. We had a room at the front of the hotel which was a little noisy due to number of heavy lorries that use road which runs right out side of hotel if we return would ask for room at back. We ate both nights at hotel as there are no other places within walking distance glad we did as food was fantastic on both nights if anything even better on the second night. My hubby had the lamb which he said was better than he had on a recent trip to NZ make sure you leave room for a pudding they are 2 die for. The hotel is well situated for exploring the dales we were made to feel very welcome good atmosphere in the bar as its small everyone chats to each other a super couple of days away.

Food good as ever - Rating 4/5
We stayed at the George and Dragon for the second time recently, as the first time, some 6 years ago we enjoyed our stay. The food is a particular highlight, well cooked and delicious. The fish & chips were better than I've had in so called award winning establishments, and the cooked breakfasts are wonderful, especially the sausages and bacon. The service is friendly and efficient, and I'm sure we'll be back in the future. The rooms are comfortable, although our bathroom floor could have done with a little attention as there were some cracked tiles. All in all though another great stay in a place wonderfully located for a walking couple like us.

Excellent Dales Gourmet Pub - Rating 5/5
The George and Dragon is one of those rare establishments that combines an excellent traditional Dales pub with gourmet cooking and first class accommodation. It's a well established, family run business that we've stayed at on several occasions.Food is excellent including a hearty English breakfast.Cask conditioned ales (Black Sheep, Theakstons Best amongst others) are looked after particularly well and there's a great atmosphere in the small traditional bar. Rooms are comfortable, well equipped and tastefully decorated. The only down side is that the owner is a Leeds United fan. But nothing's perfect.Highly recommended.

Did not disappoint - Rating 5/5
This was our second visit. Our hosts provide a very warm welcome and are always eager to help. The bar is well stocked with local beers and the food is imaginative and very well presented. The location is such that it is an easy walk across fields to the falls and the attractions of Wensleydale are in easy reach by car. We will certainly be back again.

A special treat - Rating 5/5
We have visited Yorkhsire for many years staying at various pubs and other accommodation. This is the best ever! We stayed for 3 nights. The room was beautiful, the food fantastic from a breakfast which was so good we didn't need lunch and the evening meals were of really good restaurant quality with a great choice and all home produced, including the home made ice cream. Finally, the owners John and Collette were brilliant and really made our stay special. The walks directly from the pub were also fantastic. We will be back later this year to be spoilt again.

Heaven on earth - Rating 5/5
Lovely Inn, with excellent food, well over the normal quality of ordinary pubfood. Two diners absolutely special and delightful. Olde Worlde pub, one of my favourites in the whole of the UK. Wonderful walking opportunities straight from the doorstep of the inn. (we walked along the various falls, to Bolton Castle, to Carperby and back to the Inn. Route available at the Inn.

A pleasure to be cut off by the floods - Rating 4/5
Shame about the weather and the local floods cutting off all the roads, but it didn't matter being stuck here as the G and D has everything you need. The food here is the best pub food I have had and better than a lot of restaurants. The quality of the produce as well the execution of the dishes be it breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent. The ales are well kept and tasty. The rooms are simple but clean and warm. My only negative comment would be that we had room 5 which was by the kitchen extractor, which hummed and juddered through the walls but this was off by nine at night and didn't really bother us too much in the end. The pub is very near Aysgarth falls, 10 mins walk, so good location too.
